I do some support of Autocad on Novell networks so I visit the AutoDesk site
fairly often

I seem to remember something to the effect that AutoDesk received in excess
of $6,000,000
US by just catching users of illegal copies.

Mostly I think they go after companies and people that can and should have
paid for the software.

In the case of AutoCad there is a theory that your installation data is
embeded in the drawing file so ACAD only needs to get a copy of a drawing
file to check if you are a regristered user.
