It looks like PROGRESS! I never thought of using the DOS fdisk. Try
running linux fdisk, remembering that nothing is changed until you save
it. The asterisk is now located in the correct column. i.e. boot on
/dev/hda1. I'm guessing that you are set up right, except linux would
like to see the partition table written by its own fdisk program.
Later on, you will be making entries into /etc/fstab and possibly
/etc/mtab. Learn to use "mc". (midnight commander) It is your best
friend. after you start mc, use the PgDn, PgUp, and F3 to navigate.
