These are synchronous AC motors, brand name "Slo Syn". They are similar
to
stepper motors, but are designed for running on 60 Hz power only. They
would
be extremely sluggish as stepper motors. If you will be satisfied with
5 IPM
on a machine tool, they could be used, but I don't think you'd be happy
with them.
Most stepper motors are designed for something like 4 - 6 Volts at 3-6
Amps
per phase, with vastly less inductance. You would, at any rate, have to
open up the
motor and disconnect the internal connection of the 2 internal windings,
and
bring out a 4th wire. Expect the torque to be about 7.2 Oz In with
common
stepper drivers!
