Quite right, I agree. Most metal machines require the reduction , but for
apps like wood, or laser cutting, a 2-1 reduction with microstepping on a
slo-syn is a nice cheap alternative. I'm looking at buying my first lathe
and plan to convert it to CNC. I most likely will learn first-hand that
speed in a stepper is highly desirable.
