Hello Gary,
You should look at the PIC 16F877, which is also a midrange part, 8K
of program memory, around 380 register bytes, A/D, it comes in 40
and 28 pin pin variants (F874 ??, slightly different PN). It is
flash memory, it is not a single burn and throw away type! Get the
developers kit for it from Microchip and distributors, around $250 ??
it will do programming, IN CIRCUIT DEBUGGING!!!!, all through their
free software package. its 20 Mhz. it can read/write it's own prog
EEPROM and has 256 byte of data EEPROM also!
