As I understand the national electric code, you must mark wires that are
not colored correctly for your use with two inches of tape of the
appropriate color at any place they are terminated or connected to another
wire. Of course you may not remark any wire that is coded for ground; Bare
copper, green, or green and yellow. Three phase Brown, Orange, Yellow is
usually used in general applications, but private companies can declare
another color code if it fits their desire. I don't think the code forbids
or forces any three phase coloring scheme. I am somewhat out of date so
this may no longer be correct.
