the years. I am convinced that what makes a good proprietor makes a bad
employee, and vise versa.
The determination and insistance on doing things the right way that
characterize a successful entrepreneur are generally viewed as unwillingness
to be a "team player" in an employee. Some fortune 100 executive was once
quoted as saying that "teamwork is when everyone does it my way."
How many times have you been reminded by a coworker that you take your job
too seriously? From such remarks I long ago concluded that a good team
player (from management's point of view) is one who places job security
ahead of job accomplishment. A manager once told me that my job was to make
him look good. When I responded that designing a quality product was
supposed to be my job he replied "but that's not what keeps you employed - I
do."
This is not to say that teamwork is not important or that it does not exist.
CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO is an example of teamwork. My business partner and I are a
great team. Maybe it's the lack of management, or the lack of need for it,
that makes entrepreneurialism work. Then again, maybe I'm just a lousy
employee. I can live with that.
