The same idea is used in the cabinet industry to make "fake" raised
panel doors.

Ritter MFG.(I think) has a system with three routers(hand-held).

The 1st digs in to "raise the panel". The 2nd makes the "bead around
the panel, with the rounded corners" which...
The 3rd(with a special base that tilts it 45 just like brian
describes) is used to clean out and "square up" the inside corners.

In the cabinet door "factories" 5 axis cnc machines do the same
thing, only faster...
