I finally got a chance to test the backlash compensation. I had to loosen a
thrust collar to obtain some backlash but I loosen the thrust bearing
assembly to give me .015 backlash on the X axis. I modified the dro.cfg file
by changing the .000 for the X axis backlash to .015. It didn't seem to work
correctly until I realized that it was applying the b/l comp in the wrong
direction. Not letting any grass grow under my feet, I went back to the
dro.cfg file and place a -.015 for the x axis B/L. I then reset my dial
indicator and check it over an inch in both directions. It worked perfect.
So remember if the backlash compensation does work properly when you set up
your system to change the sign to a minus. Otherwise I have assembled
several boards now and they all work fine. One other point to remember is
that the axis version will not work with the dro.cfg file for the 4 axis
version. Here are what mine looking like.

2 axis 4 axis comments
544 544 decimal port address for the second set of
pins on J3
4000 4000 4 times the number of counts on the encoder
1000
4000 4000 ditto
.015 4000
.000 4000
-.015
.000
.002
.000
One feature I would like to Tom to add would be to manually enter the
location for an axis.
