Linux woes

I have installed redhat 5.2, got X working OK, and loaded the 4 kernel
updates from red hat. I can build a kernel with the updates fine, but
when I try to apply the emc patch I get several errors.

The first problem is
HUNK 6 failed at 499
Hunk 7 failed at 523
next patch file is arch/i386/kernel/rt_time.c

then several more patches seem to work, and then a couple errors with
include/asmi386/arith.h
include/asmi386/rt_irq.h
include/asmi386/rt_time.h

anyone have a clue why the patches fail? Im sure the lernel kits and the
updates are all clean, since I can build a kernel after installing them.
