Not quite as hard as bakelite, but consider looking at the PTFE filled
Acetal (Teflon filled Delrin) referenced earlier. I have used it for small
sleeve bearings and it works great. Very easy to machine and seems to hold
up well. I got mine from McMaster Carr. Looking through the McMaster catalog
I also see a material called Self-Lubricating Garolite. It is listed as a
woven glass fabric laminate with an epoxy resin and then the choice of
graphite impregnated or molly-filled and coated.
