Ron,
From what I have heard from the ball bearing people, (take with a grain of
salt), They assemble the angular thrust ball bearing with over wide rings.
They apply some percentage of the rated preload. They then grind the rings
flush under this load. I would suppose they then wash etc but was more
shocked that they would grind a precision bearing after it was
assembled...... This could be wrong but this is what I heard.
These are supposedly know as face ground.
