With the usdigital linear strips the display will simply stop at the last
line on the encoder. As you continue past the end no reads will be updated.
Then as you return the count will start back. HMMMMMM. I never really
thought about it but that means that even if you over run the end you should
come back to the original points. On my lathe with another dro pisplay I
often over ran the ends
I just ran out to the shop and tried in on my Y axis of my lathe. I set the
zero point then move the Y axis about .5 passed the end of the encoder strip
then came back to the zero point. It was off by the amount of backlash. I
then moved the Y axis an amount equal to the backlash then brought it back
to zero. The mark on my manual hand wheel agreed. So the answer is . Go for
it.
