The only reason I have Windoze on a machine is for the CAD pkg!
Migration to Linux may depend on whether you are a user or want to manage the system. There are lots of good books on system
adminsitration, it supports C, C++, Perl, Python, Tk/Tcl rather well.
etc. etc. etc. ( in the words of the bald one )

For those people that need the graphical interface they are getting better all the time.
