Ian,

Yes, that's right! This pic appears to follow the construction laid
out by Roland Friestad (Cardinal Engineering) and published as a
serial in the magazine Home Shop Machinist.

I too, thought this to be a weak point, and made slots for the
stepper motor mount bolts to allow belt tensioning. Mine are mounted
on "pillars"(aluminum rod drilled thru for the bolts).

So others will have to say whether it is indeed a problem, or
just "looks" shaky?!?
