A trick for the Anneal process is to reduce the lighting level
in order to better see the color of the blade weld as you heat it.
After a sucessful butt weld, I move the blade with teeth facing
out and clamp it just behind the teeth (this preserves tooth rake).
Press and hold the Anneal button until the blade is a dull cherry
red color then release and "cycle" the button with one press a
second (for approx 10 secs) then a press each 2 seconds and so on,
tapering off and thus allowing the blade to cool slowly for about
one to two minutes. Repeat this process again after grinding off
the weld bead, just observe the color and cool it smoothly.
It takes a little practice. Good Luck.
