Servo Motor

Hi,
I have just come by a servo motor, apparently off a largish plotter or
something similar and I wondered if anyone could tell me more about it.
It is basically cylindrical with 4 brushes wired as opposing pairs. It
is about 3.5" diameter and 3.25" long and has a black plastic cap about
1.25" diameter by 1" long on one end housing an optical disk sensor. The
only marking on the motor is a paper label which says AUG88614. Fixed on
a bracket adjacent to the optical sensor is a termination 'connection
board' of PCB on which is etched the terminations in Japanese and
English. These are GND, A, B, C, LED+ and LED-. The cable connected to
the terminals has 'FURUKAWA - C' printed on it. The motor shaft is 3/8"
diameter and has a screw-threaded pulley on it to take a line drive. It
appears to be happy running on 12 volts.
I also have another motor which has a label on it with a trade mark of
the word Servo superimposed on a stylised letter T (I think) and the
numbers P#437758, DM65-3 and 7021. It is a normal DC motor and has what
appears to be a coil around its shaft with two wires coming out to a
plug. It has had a flat belt drive and so I wonder if the 'servo' bit is
just some form of speed regulation.
Best wishes
Ian
