Old computers have old, potentially underspec power supplies. This
coupled with induced high freq signals in the ground can be problematic,
but hard to diagnose.. I had no end of intermittent failures with my
video, LPT2 card and limit switch recognition (bus powered) until I
added an independent +5VDC supply to the pull up resistors. No problems
since! And don't those programming errors show up fast when the hardware
is finally running!
