Actually you are both correct. Gecko makes a straight microstepping drive
that requires 1 step signal fore each micro step. They also have on that has
a pulse multiplier that can be set for various multiplication settings up to
10. It receives on pulse from the computer and moves the motor the number of
steps the multiplier is set for.
