Also get yourself a big blowtorch and a bar of soap if you are doing large
chunks of aluminium.
Soap ?? - Rub it across various parts of the work (use it like a marker pen).
As you heat it up with the blowtorch, the soap will turn black - At this point,
you know the work has been preheated sufficiently to commence welding. Put much
more heat in, and the aluminium will start to sag and melt.
