Another method is to go over the aluminum with a slightly sooty
acetylene flame and heat gently until it goes away.
Again, be careful to heat gently, evenly (as in more heat to heavier
sections) and avoid dwelling on thin sections. I seem to recall this
will give a preheat of around 600-700 degrees.
