Glass is what is known as a "supercooled liquid". It will "flow" into a
puddle, if left alone for billions of years. Heat speeds this flowing up a
bit. Quartz, on the other hand, is a "crystal" and does not flow.

Don't ask me where I read this. I am too old to remember! I am sure it is
earth-shaking knowledge, responsible for the fiscal well-being of all western
nations!
