I was told that GT belts are a Gates design improving on the HTD.
York Industries and Stock Drive Products list both types. They
look very similar, but the York catalog shows a diagram that
describes how GT belts better fit the teeth in GT pulleys.
Quote from the York propaganda: "Minimal clearance and improved
tooth design ensure excellent registration and ratcheting
resistance. Bottom tooth contact design provides better cord
support and ensures more uniform belt tooth wear. Excellent entry
and exit qualities also minimize tooth wear, noise and vibration."
There is no additional data in the catalog to be able to compare
apples-apples. SDP gives breaking strength for HTD and
recommended working tension for GT, which should be very different
from each other.
