RE: CNC software for rivet embosser

I am completing a stepper motor driven x-y table to emboss simulated
rivets on sheet brass for model train use. Does anyone on the list
have a suggestion on cheap or shareware software that can take DFX or
a PLT AuotCad file and convert it into step and direction
instructions for the steppers?

If it is not asking too much, I would like to use the same software
to scribe layout lines on sheet brass, too

I am a mechanical type of guy and the software is the problem for me.
