Alan,

The table doesn't have to rotate fast... Backknife lathes used in the
furniture industry "turn the blank" only ONE revolution. The tooling
doing the cutting, on the other hand is spinning wildly fast... It
looks like a cartoon hatchet war. The "back knife" is an assembly of
blades positioned to cut the required shape as they spin in a
parallel axis to the work , which is rotatiing relatively slowly.

Anyway, I didn't look at the catalog, but you could easily set up the
same sort of operation with a fly cutter in the spindle and a part in
the rotary table, turning slowly...
