"Turning" on a mill was Re: Fly cutter on Sherline.

You can "turn short stuff in the sherline mill (and others) by
putting it in the spindle, mounting a lathe tool in appropriate
orientation (use the mill to make the toolholder). The Z handwheel
will be your "carriage" travel. XY will set the tool "on centerline"
and control the diameter cutting action. Which is which depends on
how you've oriented the cutter...

P.S. Unless you work "off the mill table", the cutter will need to be
as high as the stock is long (if you need to "turn" full length).
