I'm doing this. I just ran the power cord from the switch case on the
motor to the inverter. I also have a 2 speed motor, and can switch that
as normal. However, DO NOT switch under load! If you have to reverse
rotation, you must power down the inverter first.
One of my biggest fears when I first went with the VFD was that reflexes
would take over one day and I'd reach up and toggle one of the switches
while running. It's a bit of a reach however and I have to move my hand
right past the remote keypad, so I've managed to avoid that.
