Mcmaster-Carr Ballscrews

Hi all,

There has been a lot of discussion lately about ballscrews. Everybody seems
to agree that Mcmaster-Carr has a good deal on these. The problem however is
that they don't supply preloaded nuts to take care of the backlash problem.
I have picked up in the archives that some members like Dan Falck have
overcome this problem by using two normal nuts in a special arrangement. The
idea is to somehow apply an axial preload between them and keep them from
rotating in relation to each other.

Question 1: Is this an effective solution or are there some other hidden
problems ascociated with this?

Question 2: Can anybody give some indication of how they did this? I can
probably figure some means of doing it out for myself, but it is always nice
to see how other people did this and to learn from their mistakes. After
all, this is what this group is there for!

I (and a lot of other newbies) will appreciate any advice on this topic.
