I think you've got your riddle mixed up with your muller!
The riddle is the sifter; the muller is the mixer.

P.S. A mullers' job is not to "blend" but to "coat" the sand grains
evenly with the binder (traditionally clay, nowadays synthetic). The
difference is subtle, but important. The grains are "rubbed" into the
binder, rolling as they do so. Point of all this is too make the sand
hold its' shape in the mold.
