If you want a secure DOS window and no possibility of switching,
go to START
SHUTDOWN
Restart in DOS mode
This will give you a full DOS window.
When you're done, type EXIT to return to Windows, or just power off.
Some times Windows does some housekeeping in the background and may
shut off your hards disk after some set time or shut off your monitor
also, after some set time.
For safety's sake, try the ignore windows thing first and leave your
computer on for twice as long as you might possible use it
controlling your CNC. Go have dinner or whatever, then when you come
back see if it's locked up. If it's locked up then you can
anticipate it locking up at the most inopportune times. But then
that's what we expect from Windows.
Don't forget, you can still boot from a floppy into dos and bypass
Windows entirely.
And you can do the F8 thing when booting. I usuall hit F8 a few
dozen times during the boot process in 98 to get to the menu for
booting options.
(anybody else wish e-groups/Yahoo offered a spell checker?)
Dave
ps: I log in from e-groups and Yahoo, but I think I'm only listed
once.
Don't forget that we can get recruts from other groups, there are
microcontroller people and mill and lathes people too. Wanna hit
1,500 in the next month?
