In deskncrt with with encoder feedback you are correct in that the program
will try to increase the speed to make up for lost steps. I forget the
settings in deskncrt parameter file but you can get the error down to a
couple thousandths of an inch.
If the motor can't catch up or the error is greater that the setting in the
parameter file the program stops and an error message is displayed causing
one to fix the problem. It works pretty nice. The other feature is that it
acts like a DRO in that if you have the motors turned off but manually move
the encoders it will display its position as you move the machine.
