Doug: It would be OK to clip every-other unused pins of a resistor-network
"DIP" for some home-brew, but not for one you wanted to build more than 10
copies of, or sell ONE to some "professional" customer. (not standard part,
and someone may be highly confused, if a repair need by done by other than
yourself, one day, 100 years from now.)

Don't confuse a "pull-UP" resistor with a "series resistor". The input to an
LED does not need to be "pulled up" when there is no signal IN. Not same as
a gate, which generally must (CMOS) or should (TTL) be "pulled up" to +5.

Feel free to e-mail me with such (simple!) questions, if you have reason not
to send to entire CAD-CAM group. But nothing complex, as I are ginrully
