Scott: I have read, and BELIEVE it, that you can use a static converter ONLY
for whatever size load for which it is designed. That is, not two or more
motors, where one or more might be switched on/off while others run, etc.
Most static converters do not really give you "real" 3-phase (not al-three
phases exactly 120° out of phase with one-another), but "rotary converters"
DO. The rotary converter has only to be sized big enough for the MAX. load
you will ever apply to it, all-three machines ON at the same time. A proper
rotary c. will give you "true" 3-phase lektricity. Best yet: Talk the local
electrical utility into stringing you 3-phase to the garage, like I did!
(Oh, I had to PAY 'em to add the "high leg" transformer, but it was worth it,
as I now have "100% real, all the time, 200-amp/leg 3-phase" for less than a
good rotary would have cost for 20 amps! (Were I facile with graft, I mighta
got it for free!).

Lotsa luck! Jan Rowland, Troll
