To all that have responded to my request for parabola info.
A great big thankyou and have a Happy Easter.
You may be interested in the chain of events (fate) that led to
this interesting bit of engineering.
I am attempting to build up some additional details for my 1.5" scale
live steam Atlantic locomotive to put it on the market for sale.
Time to move on and build a new tenwheeler.
A new headlight case was built last week and all was fine until I
came to the need for the reflector. Of course I gave more thought to
the external details as this is a scale model, you know. Well, the
thought was always we will just machine up a parabolic reflector from
a hunk of aluminum as was the last one (manualy, ugh!).
Then, out of curiostity I grabbed a flashlight laying nearby and popped
out the reflector. Perfect fit in the (2" EMT) headlight case.
At this time, last tuesday, I had to run along to the local metal
munchers meeting and brought the project to show. On the way back I
stopped in to a buddys place to visit his shop and put the sack
containing the lamp on an endtable. On the way out I hear my buddy say
"OH no, what's this!" Bits of brown paper, shiny plastic and metal strewn
all over the den. THE DOG ATE MY FLASHLIGHT REFLECTOR!!
Now you know "the rest of the story".
Of course this is a perfect oportunity to try a bit of interesting lathe
CNC with CNC Pro, AutoCad, Myford and me.
Thanks again,
Rich D.
PS: I hope the Dog farts photons for a month!
Or, he needed a 'light' lunch!
