John,

Often black and white will be the center taps in 6 wire motors. What
probably got you was that your meter does not read these low ohms
well. On some motors, the center taps will be the solid colors, while
the ends will be color, color-white. Old superior motors especially.

Keep in mind that you will get more speed from the motor (used
bipolar) if you hook up centertap-to-end on each coil, rather than
end-to-end (sometimes referred to as "full coil" and suggested for
better torque). In nearly every case I have encountered, using a
unipolar (6 wire) motor end to end is WORSE than middle to end...
twice the ohms, but FOUR times the inductance. (means takes longer
to "charge" the windings fully)
