Here are my somewhat biased opinions. Get a 2 amp controller kit from Dan at
Camtronics (http://www.seanet.com/~dmauch/), get 160 in/oz NEMA 23 dual
shaft motors he offers. Dan has sold adapter plates for the Sherline in the
past. Would be worth an e-mail to ask him if they are still available. He
can also provide you with the parts to make a power supply. For software I
would suggest you look at CNC Pro by Yeager Automation (
http://www.yeagerautomation.com ). I actually prefer EMC, but CNC Pro is
probably easier to get started with. You may want to consider EMC if your
budget is tight.
Other ways are certainly possible but this would get you up and running at a
reasonable cost with proven parts.
