It will total format your disk if you chose the BDI install. There are
actually 3 installs on the disk. There is the BDI which is for a dedicated
EMC computer with no networking and almost impossible to mess up. There is
an EMC Developer system. I have not tried this one so can not comment. There
is a custom install. This lets you pick your own partition strategy, add
networking, and pick the components to install. It does use the real time
Linux kernel and EMC is installed just by selecting it as a package. This is
the install I used to create a dual boot. It does not delete anything on
your hard drive by default. What you would want to do is choose the custom
install and then when prompted for the partitioning choices delete the old
Linux partitions, but leave the Windows partition alone. Then create a /
partition and a Linux swap partition. I initially tried also creating a
small /boot partition, but the install failed. Worked fine with just the
Windows partition, /, Linux swap.
