Hi Doug,
I agree wholeheartedly with you. There is nothing more annoying than errors
in written products whether they are trade literature, books or common
journalism. There is really no excuse for it nowadays. It does, however,
produce a source of amusement in the 'feedback' column of New Scientist
magazine!! One I liked was in a Press release from NASA telling the public
that they were to send two large scientific rover vehicles to Mars instead
of just one - the text said "The rovers will be exact duplicates, but that's
where the similarities end" ....
Other thoughtlessness can also be amusing such as the report that the
University of Alberta, Edmonton, in its quest for equality for all, recently
displayed a braille poster outside its main office - unfortunately inside a
glass display case, whereas a British government department put up a
'braille' direction sign where the dots were simply printed within the
plastic sheet!
