Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions, as thought provoking as normal
for this group.
Have been away for 2 days, so am replying to all responses as one

Ceramics is an option, yes, but unfortunately the customer wants a more
modern "plastic" look. Actually i have done some surface modeling for
the local pottery companies here in Malaysia. Very different compared to
mould and die shops, with tolerances of +/- 1/8" and shrinkage factors
of 18 to 20%.
JerrryK,
Foil is a good protection, and it will not be very visible in my current
design, having a double reflection path from the uv tube to the external
for end user safety.
Jesse,
Yes good old carbon black is a good option. did some studies on life
cycle of integral hinges and the effect of gamma sterilization ( used to
work in medical devices design for Baxter and others in Europe),
actually the best i could find then was a gamma stable PP, amazingly
colour did not have any major effect, which surprised me.
Bill, should have thought of the fish tank, good suggestion! done some
research and they use fluro polymers (PTFE and family to u and me) as
well as PE
for this group.
