For example, if the bed were worn 'down' only, as in no front-to-back
shift, only vertical displacement, then the cutter would no longer be
on center over the whole length of travel. Hopefully it would be
close enough to still work, but the coupling of vertical displacement
to horizonal for points of tagency to a circular workpiece is I
think dependent on the diameter of the workpiece. If that is true,
then you would acctually need a multiplicative rather than additive
correction to an X axis with origin at the spindle center line.
