Hi Jack:
Have you considered having the bed reground?
Seems to me that this would be the best, and maybe even the cheapest
solution.
Patching it up with complicated compensating mechanisms is going to be a
dog's breakfast no matter how you approach it.
Either junk the machine, or fix it properly.
You'll be much happier!!!
