Hi,

CCD devices sound expensive - I saw an article a while ago (can't remember
where though) in which someone was using ordinary EPROMs as CCD devices.
Apparently they work well enough to be able to get a recognizable black and
white picture from although, of course, it is grainy due to the limitation
on pixel numbers. Still, it might be good enough for this purpose and EPROMs
are so easily available in scrapped equipment that it may be worth while
looking at them as a source of sensors. From what I remember, you read them
continually and the cells on which light has fallen report a lower value
proportional to the light's intensity (grey scale value) or something.
