That's the one. On the top plate there is a coiled wire that bridges the two
split plates that form the cavity. I remember something about this wire
allowing the charge on the plates to build to the point where the spark gap
connecting them broke down. Then the spark gap began to discharge at a high
frequency so the coiled wire that connected the plates for charging gave too
much inductance to let the current flow through it easily. Instead the
current flowed through the cavity lasing the gas in the way. Does that sound
right?
