Well........
It shouldn't be quite as bad as hazing. An example is I have
"setupRT.zip" downloaded to my machine for scripting the installation of
rtlinux. One of the first things to do is "from a win9x or winNT
machine unzip such and such file to a floppy"... (not an exact quote)
Geez give me a break! I downloaded it to a linux machine... I somehow
have to get the file into a windows machine, unzip the file to a floppy
to run on a linux machine. I admit that I don't know much about linux
and probably even less about windoze but I do believe it would be easier
for me to be able to install all of the programs and stuff from at least
one platform with only one OS involved. Please excuse my ignorance but
can I just unzip the setupRT.zip file and run it from linux? I don't
know how to do that in linux yet... I'm trying very hard to get this
together. I have invested a lot of time so far. For me to just get
that installation file onto a floppy I have to swap out the hard drive
on my computer so I can run windows, and probably email myself the file
before I change out the hard drives because all my email with the url's
are on the linux hard drive. (Unzipping a file from a windoze box was
not in my wildest dreams when I downloaded the files originally...) Then
I have to swap the hard drives again and install RTlinux. There are
other alternatives of course. A dual boot system... (I tried it but it
didn't work for me) I could also use someone else's Windoze machine to
download the proper files and make the disk. I could also network a
windows machine with my linux machine. (Yuck! More headaches!)
So, now that I vented some of my frustration... Can I convert that zip
file to a usable floppy disk with Linux? If it can be done how do it?
Don't these newbie linux questions just drive you crazy? Does it
-really- take windows to install linux?
Thanks for the great job everyone has been doing on these projects!!!
