This is what I am making using special hall effect sensor. It will count
the pulses of a magnetic ring or you can use a single magnet to get one
pulse
per revolution. This unit with be totally independent with a display for
each
axis. Estimated cost per axis $60.00.

Hello:

Any one have a rotary digital counter they can spare? (one turn of shaft
increments counter by one digit) Mechanical (Veeder-Root 1239 or Redington
29) or electronic ok.
