RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Comments on HF mill-drill combo machine

I had one for a very short time I took it back had a
few problems with it. One thing is it has a lot of
back-lash. I had a problem with the ways binding up I
took it all apart to see it I could fix it. But the lead
screw that was so out of alignment that it would bind up.
If you do buy one consider it a project. You will have to
replace the brass nut which is a block they pound into the
way that is taped for the lead screw.
That is if you want to
make it into a cnc or accurate mill.
Good points are it is a heavy machine lot of cast iron, you
can get 11" on the z axis 3" travel. The x and y have a lot
of travel. The upper part is like a drill press and works good
I wanted a bigger motor than the 1/2hp but it would be easy to
change.

I've got a quick question for the list. While I'm
waiting for that sweet deal on a great used mill to
come along, I've been thinking about adding a cheap
mill to my tool collection and testing out some CNC
control on it. I noticed this low priced model 12
speed mill/drill combo

that Harbor Freight offers and was wondering if anyone
on the list had some experience with it. Is it any
good at all, I'll just be using it to test and working
on wood, wax, and aluminum. Thanks,
