Art,
No, it didn't wipe my HD, but McAffe said there was nothing there while
Housecall said a drives were infected and it was unable to repair.
The new HD has totally eliminated any concerns I have over storage, and
allowed me to gradually reinstall everything, as I could shut down, swap
drives, and reboot.
This also gave me the means to preserve virtually all my data. Once I
permanently swapped over to the new 20gb HD, I alternately installed
both of the old 4gb drives, scanned every last file on them, then
started copying files over to the new HD.
BTW, Norton found the NYB virus on both drives and fixed it. McAfee said
they were clean, Housecall couldn't fix them...
And yes, I'm ruthless about killing unknown attachments, even after
ZoneAlarm and Norton are through with them. ZoneAlarm renames ANYTHING
with any sort of executable extension as a .zl9 rendering it somewhat
safe. Norton flat trashes an attachment which contains a virus and
substitutes a text file describing it's actions.
