I must say, I picked up a copy of what I thought was a demo of SolidEdge at
the Mid-Atlantic tool show, and it is a MOSTLY functioning, Parasolids-based
solid modeling package. Its pretty powerful, not the most intuitive
interface, but I am getting used to it. The catch, though, is that you can
save native file format or stl format, you must pay for IGES compatability.
Still, if I understand the website correctly, it only cost $500. for the
full package. The free version comes with sheetmetal and assembly modules,
which I haven't explored, and the solids module has several functions that
lend themselves to moldmaking. I recommend it to anyone, after all its free,
powerful, and free. Three good reasons.
