Hi,

Tried soldering direct with the varnish film still on. The solder
took and test with the multimeter showed there was contact, the the
joint easily shook loose. Didn't try the alcohol, or my daughter's
nail varnish remover, didn't want to damage the insulation where it
matters.

Licked this little irritating problem by using the tiniest of the
flat-blade screwdriver I had. The flat-tip was like a sharp knife and
went through the hard varnish, almost like butter. Getting rid of the
surface varnish took some effort, it wasn't like just scrap and it
will flake off.

Thanks to all who responded.
