varnish on transformer terminals

Hi,

One little question from an absolute electronic newbie. How does one
easily get rid of varnish on power transformer terminals. As drastic
as putting the grinder/drill on a Dremel to work on it? The terminals
on mine has the holes and surface covered by hard varnish.
